The short answer

What is home services SEO?

What does SEO for contractors include?

Home services SEO gets a trade business found when people search for help at home: "plumber Toronto", "furnace repair near me", "roof leak repair". It covers four things: a Google Business Profile that ranks in the map pack, a page for each service, a fast site that turns visits into calls, and mentions from trusted local sites.

The demand is big and local. In Canada, "plumber Toronto" is searched about 1,500 times a month and "AC repair Toronto" about 1,000. "Furnace repair Toronto" and "electrician Toronto" get about 800 each (Ahrefs, Canada, Oct 2026).

Advertisers pay roughly $11 a click for "plumber Toronto" and $12 for "emergency plumber Toronto". That's what each click costs when you pay for it instead of ranking.

Home services search works differently in three ways:

  • Many jobs start in the map pack. Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence. Distance is fixed, so your profile, reviews and service pages do the rest. More on local SEO in Toronto.
  • Many trades have no storefront. If customers don't come to you, Google expects a service-area profile with the address hidden. Set up wrong, a profile can be suspended, or never show where you actually work.
  • Urgency changes everything. No heat in January? People call the first company that answers. Planning a roof replacement? They compare three quotes. One "services" page can't serve both.
What we do

Contractor SEO. Six parts, one plan.

Run every month, across every place a homeowner might find you.

Google Business Profile

The right primary category, real hours, every service and photos of real jobs. A service area that matches where you work, and your name exactly as it reads on your trucks. Keywords in the name are a common reason profiles get suspended.

Service pages

One page for each service you want more of, like furnace repair, drain cleaning or roof replacement. Each answers what homeowners ask: what's involved, how long it takes, what affects the price and how to book.

Area pages that earn their place

Only where there's something real to say: jobs done there, local housing stock, permits or travel times. Copy-pasted suburb pages are a spam pattern Google penalizes. We don't build them.

Reviews, the right way

Every customer gets asked for a review after the job. Every review gets a reply. No incentives and no filtering out unhappy customers: both break Google's rules.

Technical SEO and speed

Fast mobile pages, tap-to-call in every header, clean structure and local business schema. Most home service searches happen on a phone, often in a hurry.

Calls and bookings tracked

Phone taps, form requests and online bookings, tracked by service, page and channel. You see which services and areas bring in jobs, not just visitors.

By trade

SEO for every trade.

Each trade has its own searches, seasons and margins. So each one gets its own plan.

  • HVAC: seasonal spikes, with furnace repair in winter and AC repair in summer. Plus high-value installs and replacements.
  • Roofing: urgent leak repairs, and replacements homeowners compare carefully. Trust, photos and clear estimates decide the job.
  • Flooring: showrooms up against national chains for "flooring near me". Installers win on real project photos and clear material pages.
  • Plumbing: emergency searches around the clock. Tap-to-call, accurate hours and map visibility matter most.
  • Electrical: panel upgrades, EV charger installs and renovations. Licensing and clear service pages build trust.
  • Renovation and landscaping: seasonal, project-based work. Galleries of real jobs and clear process pages win the quote request.

Want calls while SEO builds? Google Ads and Google Local Services Ads bring them in.

Local Services Ads put background- and licence-checked businesses above the regular results for many home service searches in Canada. We can set them up alongside your SEO.

Results

Proof from other local markets.

We haven't published a home services case study yet. Our two published case studies come from other local markets. Same team, same baseline-first method.

An Ontario law firm saw 4.9× the organic Google clicks. A Toronto medical aesthetics clinic saw 8.9×. Both were measured in Google Search Console, July to September 2025 vs 2026.

Past results don't predict future results.

How it works

Five steps. No black boxes.

1 · Audit and baseline

We record where you stand today: map visibility, Search Console clicks, AI mentions, calls and booked jobs. Every later result is measured against this dated baseline.

2 · Fact sheet and profile check

One sheet of verified facts: name, phone, service area, hours, licences and services. Your site, Google profile and directories all have to match it. We flag anything likely to get the profile suspended.

3 · Fix the foundation

Google Business Profile, technical fixes, speed, schema, plus call and booking tracking. That way, rankings can be tied to jobs.

4 · Build service depth

New and rewritten pages for the services and areas you want most. Then earned local mentions and links from suppliers, associations and community sites.

5 · Measure and report

A monthly plain-English report: calls, bookings and map visibility by service and area, and what's next. Each change is checked again at 14 and 28 days.

Pricing

How much does home services SEO cost?

What should a contractor budget for SEO?

Our SEO retainers generally run from about $1,500 to $6,000+ per month. A single-trade business in one city sits at the lower end; a multi-trade company covering the whole GTA sits higher. It's a flat monthly fee, quoted after the free audit.

We don't lock you into long contracts or guarantee rankings. No one controls Google's results. We commit to the work, the measurement and a clear report every month.

We haven't published a home services case study yet; these results are from an Ontario law firm and a Toronto medical aesthetics clinic.

Measured with the Redline Baseline Method: Search Console, July to September 2026 against the same months in 2025. Past results don't predict future results; yours depend on your market, competition and starting point. See the case studies.

Answers

Home services SEO questions, answered.

How long does SEO take for a home service business?

Google Business Profile and technical fixes can show up within weeks. New service pages usually need three to six months to reach their potential. Competitive trades across the whole GTA take longer. We check every change at 14 and 28 days, so you see early signals instead of waiting blind.

Can I rank in the map pack if I work from home or from my truck?

Yes. Set up your Google Business Profile as a service-area business, list the areas you serve and hide your home address. You'll show for searches near where you actually work. You can't rank in another city by listing an address you don't operate from: virtual offices and mailboxes aren't allowed.

Should we have a page for every city we serve?

Only where you have something real to say, like jobs done there or local housing and permit details. Near-identical pages for every suburb are a doorway-page pattern Google penalizes. A strong service page plus a few genuine area pages usually beats fifty thin ones.

Can we offer a discount for Google reviews?

No. Google doesn't allow incentives for reviews, or asking only happy customers. Ask every customer, make it easy with a direct link, and reply to every review. Steady, genuine reviews are what help.

Should we run Google Ads or Local Services Ads as well?

Usually, yes, while SEO builds, especially for emergency services. Local Services Ads appear above the regular results for many home service searches. They require background and licence checks. Ads data also shows which searches turn into booked jobs, so we know which pages to build first.

How do you show up in ChatGPT and Google's AI answers?

AI tools build answers from pages they can retrieve and sources that mention you. We make your service pages specific and easy to quote. We keep your facts consistent everywhere and earn mentions on the local sources AI tools cite. Then we track how often you appear across repeated runs of a fixed set of prompts.
